Hudson Hot Air Affair Takes Flight February 6–8

Bundle up and look to the skies—Hudson’s most colorful winter tradition is back! The 37th annual Hudson Hot Air Affair returns February 6–8, 2026, bringing warmth, wonder, and a splash of color to the St. Croix Valley. Recognized as the premier winter ballooning event in the Midwest, this festival draws thousands of visitors who come to witness nearly 30 vibrant hot air balloons fill the winter sky in a breathtaking display.

This year’s theme, “Sky Walkers Return to Rock,” brings a fun Star Wars-inspired twist to the beloved event. The weekend kicks off Friday evening with the Hot Air Affair Torchlight Parade at 7 p.m., followed by a dazzling fireworks show at Lakefront Park.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities like geocaching, shopping, food vendors, and the wacky Smoosh Board Competition—a crowd favorite where teams of four race on shared “skis.” The fun continues Saturday evening with the spectacular Moon Glow at EP Rock School, where balloon envelopes light up the night like glowing lanterns. If winds pick up, the event transforms into a mesmerizing Field of Fire, filling the sky with bursts of flame.

The real magic, though, happens at sunrise as the balloons lift off in mass ascensions—scheduled for Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7:35 a.m. (weather permitting). The EP Rock School launch field, located at 340 13th Street South in Hudson, will also host concessions, a craft fair, and a warm-up station.

Whether you’re a local resident or visiting the St. Croix Valley for the first time, the Hudson Hot Air Affair is a can’t-miss celebration of color, community, and winter fun. So grab your hat and mittens, head outside, and look up—the sky’s the limit!
